Osteopathy
Osteopaths are highly-trained in therapeutic approaches that are suitable for a broad range of individuals of all ages and backgrounds. As Allied Healthcare Professionals, we are experts in the musculoskeletal (MSK) system – that is the muscles, joints and associated tissues and their relationship with other systems of the body.
Osteopathy is a primary care profession, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders, injury, aches and pains, and the effects of these conditions on patients' general health.
Some examples of conditions and injuries that we examine, treat and provide management strategies for include:
Arthritic pain
Circulatory problems
Cramp
Fibromyalgia
Frozen shoulder
Shoulder and elbow pain
Tennis elbow
Headache arising from the neck (cervicogenic)
Joint pains
Joint pains including hip and knee pain from Osteoarthritis
General, acute & chronic backache, back pain
Generalised aches and pains
Lumbago
Migraine prevention
Minor sports injuries
Muscle spasms
Neuralgia
Tension and inability to relax
Rheumatic pain
Sciatica
Uncomplicated mechanical neck pain (as opposed to neck pain following injury i.e. whiplash)
Using many of the diagnostic procedures applied in a conventional medical assessment, Osteopaths seek to restore the optimal functioning of the body, promote health and wellbeing, where possible, without the use of drugs or surgery.
Osteopaths adapt their approach depending on the needs and preferences of the individual and their presenting complaint(s). Our Osteopaths have a person-centred approach to health and wellbeing meaning that they consider symptoms in the context of the person's full medical history, as well as their lifestyle and personal circumstances. This “whole person” approach ensures that all treatment is tailored to the individual.
Osteopaths have been regulated by statute since 1993 by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).
